Eric Hutchinson’s new album, Repeating Myself is a joyous return to the piano pop and singer-songwriter soul that first hooked fans of his debut album, Sounds Like This. Full of feel-good, upbeat tracks, Repeating Myself, might make you think of Billy Joel or Stevie Wonder, but honestly - it sounds like vintage Eric Hutchinson. He even jokes, "The number one influence for these new songs was… myself."

This whole "return to form" idea began when Eric was on tour celebrating the 15th anniversary of Sounds Like This (the one with hits like "Rock & Roll" and "Ok, It’s Alright With Me"). Playing those early songs was a wake-up call. “I’m different from when I wrote those songs, and it felt like someone else had made them," Eric recalls. "I loved how immediate and raw they were. I decided to try writing songs like that person again.” 

The result? A collection of catchy, danceable, energetic instant-classics that are totally Hutchinsonian. “King of Philadelphia" is a bouncing, soulful funk tune where Eric uses his dry wit to roast the ridiculous cost of city living. Fans can also groove to “Anything You Need,” a neo-Motown duet with Tess Henley about total devotion, dance to the rhythmic, Latin-inspired "Tell The Truth”, and let their toe tap to “Naturally”, Eric’s ode to patience and creativity.

The new songs from Repeating Myself are a fitting addition to Eric’s long and varied musical career. The road hasn't been a straight line - for the last decade, he’s been on a musical adventure, experimenting with everything from jazz and folk to Americana and alt-rock. "I’m always pushing to try something new with my music,” he reflects. "I never wanted to keep doing the same thing over and over.” But for this album, Eric hit the reset button, giving himself full permission to just have fun. “I didn’t get too in my head about what I was coming up with - I just wrote what came instinctually and felt soulful and real to me.”

He was right to trust his gut - his past releases have hit gold and platinum status in the U.S. and around the world, racking up over 105 million streams total. He’s made TV appearances on everything from The Tonight Show to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and you've definitely heard his tracks in major ads for Microsoft and Netflix, and more. Along the way, Eric has built a loyal cult following who show up for his clever, heartfelt lyrics and those instantly hummable, soulful melodies. 

While Eric's love for the classics is well-known (he name-checks Aretha Franklin and James Brown in his track “The Basement”), Repeating Myself drew inspiration from a new generation. Eric says he was listening to artists like Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan. “I live for old music,” he admits. “But I’m super excited by so many young artists that are bringing fresh takes on traditional songwriting—something that has always been my goal.”

To celebrate his first new album in four years, Eric’s hitting the road in 2026 for the Repeating Myself Tour.
